Autism & Vaccines

September 20, 2009

I read a paper tilted “The danger of excessive vaccination during brain development: the case for a link to Autism Spectrum Disorders” by Russell L. Blaylock.

This is the best review I’ve ever read about vaccines and autism. Blaylock a retired neurosurgeon explains a mountain of research in lay terms and walks the reader through the effects of vaccines on the body.

In 1976, children received 10 vaccines before attending school. Today they will receive over 36 injections. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control assured parents that it was safe to not only administer these vaccines, but that multiple vaccines could be given at one time with complete safety Like the vaccine Pentacel, a combo vaccine that combines Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, and Hib. And they recommend it’s safe to start giving it at 6 weeks of birth!

The media of course does there part too, to promote vaccine safety. Remember a couple of  years ago when the uproar was about thimerosal in vaccines. There was a lawsuit set to be filed against Eli Lilly for damages, and weeks before it went to court a provision was added at the end of the Patriot Act they gave vaccine makers immunity for any damages that vaccines cause.

Then the media started a campaign to inform parents that mercury doesn’t hurt their kids it might actually improve their IQ! I’m not kidding, just watch the video below.

They can announce that mercury is not only safe but also that it seems to actually increase the IQ, and the public is to accept such pronouncements as the truth. They can proclaim Thimerosal safe to use in vaccines without ever having conducted a single study on its safety in over 70 years of use, and we are to accept it.

Thimerosal, a compound that is 49 percent ethylmercury, was first manufactured in 1930 by Eli Lilly.  As an initial safety test, the compound was given to 22 patients with meningococcal menintitis.  “Most died within a few days, “Lilly concluded that since they died from meningitis, thimerosal was safe, and brought it to market.”  By the time the FDA started mandating safety testing of products, it was eight years later, and thimerosal was grandfathered in.

What I like about Blaylock is his commonsense approach. He’s not out screaming that vaccines cause autism, but he does say there is more than enough proof today to call a halt to the present vaccine schedule and ban any level of mercury in all vaccines.

Blaylock suggest vaccines are much like cigarettes were in the 1940’s. The corporations who produce them know they are dangerous so they spend billions funding studies that say their safe. Because every year they can push back a ruling by the CDC or the FDA is billions in profits for them.

In the early 1980s, the incidence of children diagnosed with an ASD was about 1 in 10,000 children. By 2005, the incidence had leaped to about 1 in 250 and today it is more than 1 in 150 and appears to be still climbing—although this may be an under ascertainment artifact. One of the strongest apparent causal links to the increase in ASD cases was a drastic change in the vaccine programs of the United States and many other countries, which included a dramatic increase in the number of vaccines being given at a very early age.

Blaylock quotes a study that says removing the mercury from vaccines will decrease the number of cases of autism but it will not solve the problem. It is obvious from the extremely high incidence of ASD that these autoimmune related genes are very common, but they remain silent until triggered by vaccines or other environmental toxins.

This means that it’s not just the mercury in the vaccines that cause the damage, it’s the vaccines themselves. The goal of a vaccines is to create an autoimmune response. This response starts up the bodies natural immune system to fight infection. But because the vaccines is injected into the blood the body handles this infection differently. The immune system can stay on for months, and this causes the brain to swell. In the long term this continuous activation of the immune system suppresses your natural ability to fight infections.

This leaves people who got vaccinated with a higher risk of catching an infection that causes complications due to the brain swelling and the suppression of the immune system.

It’s really a great paper and worth the read. I have linked it here for download. Already highlighted from when I read the paper.

Vaccinations and Neurological Disorders

February 14, 2008

There is a new report out of a study that shows a link between kids who have vaccinations and their increased chance of having an neurological disorder. Everything from autism to ADHD. The article is HERE, it’s interesting. I’ll leave my opinion out of it but just say this. You can Google vaccinations and find tons of studies claiming their safe, if you look close enough you’ll find most of those studies are funded and researched by big Pharma companies. This study is not, it was funded by Generation Rescue, a group of families with autistic children. But the research is from SurveyUSA who does surveys for a lot of fortune 500 companies.

Autism and Homeland security

November 1, 2007

Are Vaccines A Matter of National Secruity?
The last four sections for the historical Homeland security Act, the largest restructuring of the government since 1947, doesn’t deal with middle eastern terrorist groups, or new security measure in the case of emergency. No it deals with something that most people have trouble connecting the dots too. Vaccines, and more importantly the Companies that make them.

A last minute provision was added to the already 470 plus pages of the bill. It was add so late that most members of congress didn’t even know it was added, and it was far too late to debate weather or not it deserved to be included in the bill.

Eli Lilly
Sections 1714, 1715, 1716, and 1717 protect companies like Eli Lilly a global pharmaceutical company from lawsuits by removing liability for any injuries that may be the result of any vaccines they manufacture. Including the very controversial Thimerosal ( Thimerosal contains 49.6% mercury, the second most toxic metal known to man) used as a preservative in many vaccines that were given to kids from birth to about 18 months of age.

At the time the bill was being presented to Congress, Eli Lilly had come under intense pressure for the possible link between autism and Thimerosal in vaccines. A public movement was in the process to file suit against the pharmaceutical giant, and other companies that gave vaccines to kids, while knowing they contained toxic levels of mercury.

Eli Lilly was aware of the concerns resulting from Thimerosal exposure since the early 1940’s and was advised by its own Medical Science Department in 1967 that the claim “Non-toxic” be removed from its Thimerosal labels. Lilly’s own materials safety data sheet acknowledges that exposure in children may cause mild to severe mental retardation and that mercury poisoning may occur.

Amazingly FDA in over 70 plus years since Thimerosal was first used in vaccines, has never order Eli Lilly to conduct safety test even though there are concerns about it’s toxicity and it’s allergic properties

Vaccine Bills
The idea of a vaccine bill isn’t new, Senator Bill Frist’s Vaccine Bill S 2053 , was defeated in July 2002. Oddly enough the provision added to the Homeland Security Bill was worded exactly like that of Frist’s bill, a aide even mentioned that it was a different font then the rest of the Homeland Security Act, and it looked like someone cut it out and pasted it into the new bill.

Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona characterized the provision as “among the most inappropriate” in the homeland security legislation that has “no bearing whatsoever on domestic security.”

It is important to note that former President Bush sat on the Lilly board in the late 1970’s. The White House budget director, Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., is a former Lilly executive. Sidney Taurel, the company’s chairman and chief executive, was appointed in June 2007 by President Bush to serve on a presidential Homeland Security Advisory Council.

So What Does Autism Have To Do With Homeland Security?
Rep. Dick Armey, was the one who add the provision saying “It’s a matter of national security, We need their vaccines if the country is attacked with germ weapons.”

Armey stats the United States can not afford to have pharmaceutical companies sued, it would force them out of business. If they were found guilty of a link between Thimerosal and autism, the settlement could be in the billions. And what about our military, don’t they need vaccines when they go over sea’s, even though now there is suspect that Gulf War Syndrome is caused by Thimerosal in the massive amounts of vaccines that are mandatory for soldiers.

Armey said he “did it, and was proud of it”,, though it does seem convenient that a provision was sneaked into the Homeland security Act by someone who is set to retire at the end of the year, so Armey won’t have to deal with any back lash.

My point is not to try and prove that thimerosal causes autism, My point is to draw attention to what the pharmaceutical industry is doing to avoid responsibility.

Autism // Symptoms

September 5, 2007

Just some random info I found about autism

Core symptoms

The severity of symptoms varies greatly between individuals; however, all people with autism have some core symptoms in the areas of:

  • Social interactions and relationships. Symptoms may include:
    • Significant problems developing nonverbal communication skills, such as eye-to-eye gazing, facial expressions, and body posture.
    • Failure to establish friendships with children the same age.
    • Lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people.
    • Lack of empathy. People with autism may have difficulty understanding another person’s feelings, such as pain or sorrow.
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication. Symptoms may include:
    • Delay in, or lack of, learning to talk. As many as 50% of people with autism never speak.2
    • Problems taking steps to start a conversation. Also, people with autism have difficulties continuing a conversation once it has begun.
    • Stereotyped and repetitive use of language. People with autism often repeat over and over a phrase they have heard previously (echolalia).
    • Difficulty understanding their listener’s perspective. For example, a person with autism may not understand that someone is using humor. They may interpret the communication word for word and fail to catch the implied meaning.
  • Limited interests in activities or play. Symptoms may include:
    • An unusual focus on pieces. Younger children with autism often focus on parts of toys, such as the wheels on a car, rather than playing with the entire toy.
    • Preoccupation with certain topics. For example, older children and adults may be fascinated by train schedules, weather patterns, or license plates.
    • A need for sameness and routines. For example, a child with autism may always need to eat bread before salad and insist on driving the same route every day to school.
    • Stereotyped behaviors. These may include body rocking and hand flapping.
